Come with me to the Amalfi Coast! Get transported as I did when I set this Mediterranean Inspired Tablescape. My multiple trips to Italy, Greece and my longing to visit Portugal are what drove all the beautiful details on this table.
Vacation Memories lead to Inspiration
Let your memories flow and let your creative juices start flowing when creating your own staycation. Memories such as the blue and white of the Grecian buildings, the gorgeous Santorini sunset, the reflection of the bright sun on lapping ocean waves, the beautiful yellows of the buildings in Italy were memories that quickly came to mind and brought about ideas to find a way to recreate these memories at home. Even things like enjoying limoncello on the island of Capri were memories that came to mind and inspired what I wanted to showcase on the table but also my choice of cocktails. They influenced the patterns and the specific tableware items I chose.
These memories helped me to decide on the look of the table, and the blue and white color scheme. I find whether I’m creating a table or a room, there is usually one piece like a pillow, a fabric choice, or in this instance, it was a plate I fell in love with that helps me to start putting together this table. This beautiful blue and white, hand-painted Artemis Italia salad plate immediately brought memories of my trips to Italy and Greece! (photo above)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Once I chose this salad plate the rest of the table, thus my Mediterranean staycation came together with all the other lovely supporting elements you see on the table. ⠀
Imagine the flow of your party
Can you imagine it! Kaftans flowing in the warm summer breeze, your cocktail ring glinting in the sun, the cool feeling of your refreshing limoncello cocktail in your hand as your eyes delight at a beautiful table awash with summer blues. Let’s not forget the lively music tempting your hips to sway (this is a must, I have Latin and Caribbean roots after all)
Does anyone else imagine the “feel” of your party? I always do, and it really helps me to decide on the details, on my party stations, and even what the focal points on the table will be. I highly recommend this exercise, not only does it get you excited to plan but you are able to decide on the look, feel, and even the tastes that you want your guests to experience.⠀⠀
The Power of the Centerpiece
About this table, did you catch the change? It’s the same table but this time I changed the centerpiece flowers from sunflowers to hydrangeas. I call this the power of the centerpiece! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I love how the layers of blue on the table, coupled with gold, lend to its sophistication even a bit of a boho vibe.⠀I hope you can clearly see that just changing your centerpiece can help you use the same settings for several seasons and freshens up a tablescape that you considered your tried and true.
Don’t be afraid to experiment, the beauty of summer is that simplicity is embraced. My advice for summer centerpieces is to keep them simple and to use bunches of one type of flower. Let their color and texture be the thing that adds that pop of color and interest to the table. ⠀
The Power of the Napkin
It’s not only flowers that can make change the table significantly, but something as simple as changing a napkin ring and dinner napkin. In the blue and white Mediterranean table above, I changed the tie-die napkin to this beautiful gold-trimmed napkin. If you thought this table was already sophisticated this brought it to the next level.
On the blue and white table with yellow sunflowers, I made a few changes like adding the scalloped plate, but even if this change wasn’t made did you see how the napkin and the napkin ring added a bit more casualness to the table. I think this place setting would be perfect for a casual breakfast or lunch.
