Potted arrangements are a beautiful way to display florals on your next tablescape but they can be difficult to achieve without the right advice. I have the ultimate trick that will make it easier than ever to make your dream flower arrangement in a planter come to life!
Tips for Making a Flower Arrangement in a Planter
First off, the ultimate tip, chicken wire!
Ever wonder how folks get their flowers to stand in the right places in order to make for a gorgeous potted arrangement? Chicken wire is your answer.
This is how I prepared my chicken wire. I put a piece of chicken wire on top of my planter and proceeded to cut a piece by cutting around the planter. I cut a piece that was about that was about an inch wider than my planter all around. Then I bent the edges to create a shape that would fit snuggly inside the vessel. Look at the photo below to see the result.
All you have to do next is add the chicken wire to your pot and then fill it up with water.
You could add a floral block, however, that would make placing the flowers more difficult as you’ll be pushing through the chicken wire so I suggest sticking with traditional water.
From there I suggest picking a flower and then two pieces of filler. Bunch them together and then insert them through the holes in the chicken wire. I chose tulips and wax flowers.
To build a beautiful arrangement, choose 2+ colors of flowers and alternate throughout. I chose light and dark pink tulips for this stunning arrangement for my recent tulip-inspired spring tablescape. Many people would think tulips are a “spring” flower. I, however, love using tulips all year old for fresh, vibrant floral arrangements.
Fill any extra spots with some additional filler. I love wax flowers for this!
I placed both my tulips and filler in a dome shape to create a nice, balanced arrangement. Do this by cutting the stems at a 90-degree angle and placing longer stems in the middle of the arrangement and shorter stems around the outside.
It is really that simple to make a flower arrangement in a flower pot. See? No complicated steps here.
How to Arrange a Potted Arrangement
Equipment
- 1 Bunch of Tulips
- 1 Bunch of Filler
- 1 Pot
- Chicken Wire
- Water
Instructions
- Begin by bunching up your chicken wire and sticking it inside of your pot. It should not go over the top of your pot.
- Fill up your pot 3/4 of the way with water. Add in any additives at this point that you would like for your flowers.
- Begin placing the tulips. Stick them through the holes in the chicken wire after you have cut them at a 90 degree angle. Place them with some space between so that you can fill in with some filler. You'll want to create a "dome" shape with the tulips.
- After all of your tulips are placed, add in your filler in the spots between the tulips. This should fill out the arrangement and continue the dome shape. This will finish off your tulip arrangement in a pot.
- OPTIONAL: Keep it fresh by trimming the stems at a 90 degree angle every few days and refresh the water as well.
