Tropical Staycation Party

Tropical Staycation

Are you wishing for a getaway?

I sure am! I originally wrote this the first year we were quarantined but it’s always a good time to up your staycation or tropical party game. So after moping a bit about not being able to travel that year, I decided to stop wishing and reminiscing and just bring a tropical vacay to my backyard with a tropical staycation party.

Club Med Columbus Isle, Bahamas

Tropical Staycation Party Inspiration

My biggest inspiration came from our family vacations to Club Med Ixtapa, Mexico, and Columbus Isle, Bahamas resorts. Even though each of these resorts has its own flair they had so much of what we love in common.

Imagine tall brilliantly colored buildings surrounded by lush foliage like palm trees and Bougainvillea swaying in balmy breezes. All of this is a beautiful backdrop to the beautiful beach with its crystal clear water and white sand. We always made a point to get a room with a view to be able to wake up to the sight of the sun shining on the beautiful blue waters. The saying we adopted during our stays was “Life as it should be!”

This was enough inspiration to help me choose the bright colors, textures, tropical flowers, and other elements that make up this staycation tablescape to bring some tropical goodness to my backyard!

“I have good news for you! You don’t have to own it all to get the look you want on your table!”

With the help of Freshly Set, I was able to add to the items in my personal collection to create the tropical paradise I imagined on my table.

Why Rent?

I’ve rented items to entertain in my home for years, I have a large family and always needed extra items for the holidays.  Renting is perfect if like me, you have reached a point in your life where you just want to make space for the things that you love to use most often. This is also great when you are just starting out and want to try a new look before you commit to investing in it.

Click on the links below for my sources for the exact or similar items that I used from my personal collection.

  1. Geranium Dinner Plate
  2. Cabbage Bowl
  3. Bamboo Flatware
  4. Juice Glass Wicker Sleeve
  5. Votive Holders
  6. Gold Peacock (similar)
  7. Gold Peacock (similar)
  8. Green Vase (similar)
  9. Acrylic Wine Bucket
  10. Straw Placemat
  11. Tablecloth (similar)
  12. Tablecloth (similar)

Renting items helped me add the extra things I needed to host my very large family on our holiday get-togethers, and create a one-of-a-kind theme for a girls’ night in or a milestone birthday party. I found this can be done fairly inexpensively compared to what I would pay to purchase all the items with these two companies. Not only that, but they also help with my after-party clean-up! You return your dirty dishes and linens and they do the washing for you. This is a win-win in my book!

The products that I rented from these companies worked perfectly together to get the tropical paradise I wanted on my table.

I used brilliant colors, lots of texture, and tropical-themed details to bring this table to life. Texture is another aspect you can have in abundance on your tropical table, here everything from the juice glass with its wicker sleeve, the white geranium dinner plates to the bamboo forks added this to the table. The green flower vase pictured on the table below just gleams in the sunshine and again adds even more texture.

Also, don’t be afraid to use brightly saturated colors, that’s what the tropics are all about. The pineapple salt and pepper shakers also add a pop of white to this table.

It’s all in the details! Things such as flowers, a gold peacock, pineapple salt and pepper shakers, and even food can help create a tropical theme on your table. I wanted the florals to make a huge tropical statement since they were the centerpiece. I used brightly colored ranunculus, peonies, protea pincushions, faux kumquats, and framed them with Aralia and leather leaves.

Hope this inspired you to have your own staycation! Of course, no vacation is complete without s cocktails and appetizers.
