Seven Special Touches To Add To Your Valentine’s Day Table

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching! I’m going to share seven special touches to add to your Valentine’s Day Table to get your guests ” feeling that loving feeling”. (I think I’m showing my age here! lol!)

Adding small touches to your table that can also become gifts, is a great way to make your Valentine’s table and your guests feel special.  With that in mind, let’s get started on those tips!

Special touch #1: Set a beautiful Table

Seeing the effort that you made to set a beautiful table would make any guest feel special. It’s Valentine,  add a special touch by sharing pieces that have a personal meaning to you. Think here, of your favorite collections, or that lucky find at your favorite antique store or Goodwill.

For this table, I decided to add a twist to the traditional colors and go with my beloved blue and white with the addition of a deep red. Colors like purple and fuschia were introduced in the multiple floral arrangements on the table.  I fell in love with the chinoiserie salad plate and everything else fell in place. It was great to shop my home and use mostly what I already own. Before you set your table, shop your house you’ll find items you can repurpose and collections you can share with others.

The white figures are vintage and add so much personality to the table and I absolutely love them!

You will see different versions of my Valentine table in this blog post.  In the version above, I wanted to add more of a feminine touch to celebrate a Galentine’s brunch or tea. I did this by putting the floral centerpiece front and center and accompanied it with two beautiful Asian figures.  I topped the place setting with an embroidered napkin tied with a red velvet bow to finish the look.

A close up of the delicate details of these Asian figures.

I also used my ginger jar collection, pulled gold candlesticks from my bedroom, and used china I already owned with the addition of a few new items. I loved adding the animal print fabric as a tablecloth to add a bit of the exotic!  The addition of the two  Asian figures is part of what a call my extra special touch. Sharing pieces like these are a way to share things in my home that I love right on my table.  The result was a chinoiserie style table with loads of sophistication.

This floral centerpiece is a gift in itself. It contains anemones, calla lilies, ranunculus, and roses in reds, purples, and fuchsias.

Special touch#2: Wrap a Gift Beautifully

Valentine’s day involves sharing gifts and why not make them even more special by wrapping them beautifully. Here I used different colored red ribbons made of different fabrics. To tie the gift to the table I added a thin blue velvet ribbon and topped it off with some of the flowers in the floral centerpiece.

The special touch of a beautifully wrapped gift adorned with fresh flowers.

Special touch#3: Make a Signature Cocktail

Every celebratory occasion is made even merrier with a signature cocktail. The Champagne in the Ombre cocktail, it’s so easy to make, but it’s elevated by its fancy garnish of strawberry hearts. This drink’s beautiful pink color makes it an ideal for Valentine’s or Galentine’s. Click here to get the recipe for the Champagne in the Ombre cocktail.

Special touch#4:  Share your favorite Desserts

One of my favorite desserts is macarons. How can you not fall in love with this fluffy cookie and its yummy filling! They come in so many different flavors like rose, lavender, pistachio, and birthday cake that you are sure to find a flavor your guests will love. This time of year you’ll find an abundance of these cookies in heart-shaped form and shades of red and pink. Also, most of the bakeries that offer macarons have beautiful boxes available that make these goodies instant gifts that could also beautify your table. There are so many other single-serve desserts like cupcakes, mini cakes, cake pops, and custard cups that could be wrapped up and make great takeaways.

Special touch#5: Give the gift of Flowers

I don’t know about you but flowers always make me feel happy! A way to spread this happiness is to create a posy bouquet for all your guests. Just a few flowers and some greenery is all it takes to make a little floral magic.  My formula to make a pretty and interesting arrangement is to represent the following floral components: a focal flower, to that flower add 2 or 3 flowers that complement and are smaller in scale and finish it off with a bit of greenery.

To compose this posy, I took a few of the same elements I used in the centerpiece. I added a bit of the special, by wrapping gold paper around the stem and finished it off with a red velvet bow. I used them to further decorate the table by placing them right on the place setting in this photo, below. If you plan to use the plate, I would first place a square of clear plastic wrap for protection.

Special touch#6: Give the gift of Candles

Candles are a gift that keeps on giving. I was lucky to find this one at Homegoods and I loved the deep red color and its heart shape. All this candle needed to make the perfect gift and to get tied in on the table is a bit of blue velvet ribbon.  As you’ve seen in other photos, I even used it as a candy holder and set it on my table. Whether you find a similar heart-shaped candle or one with another decorative container the great thing about these candle holders is that they can be repurposed once the candle has been used. I can see my guest reusing this to store trinkets or candy.

In this version of the place setting, I accentuated the gold on the table by replacing the original chargers with a gold charger.

Special touch #7: Serve a Special Snack

Last but not least of the seven special touches to add to your Valentine’s Day table, is beautiful snacks. One of my favorites is a charcuterie board. The mixture of meat and cheese choices on the board would make anyone feel special. It also looks impressive on your table. There are many ways to present this but a heart-shaped board makes it unmistakable that we are celebrating love.
