First off, the colors you are using to accent the black and white. For my table, I decided to go with pink.

Then comes the details that offset the black and white elegance of the garden party table setting. I used sculpted vases to add subtle detail to the table.

Finally, tying in some beautiful blooms to this type of place setting is an absolute must.

Let’s take a deep dive into the many details of this beautiful black and white garden party tablescape.

Beautiful Black and White Garden Party Tablescape Details

When thinking of setting this elegant Parisian-inspired black and white garden party table, I thought of French brands like Chanel and their famous brand colors of black and white. I’m not sure if the popularity of this brand is what easily associates this color combination with Paris but that is the first thing that came to mind and the inspiration piece to the backdrop of this garden dinner party tablescape.

I also knew that a striped black and white tablecloth would immediately exude the sophisticated French feel I was looking for.

Striped vintage grain sacks used on farms and homesteads in France are often used as tablecloths. A little fun fact for you! They usually lend themselves to a rustic look but the thin crisp stripe of this linen lends itself to build a more sophisticated look, which is what I was going for with this tablescape.

I chose the black and white plates with the Asiatic pheasant plate pattern to add softness and add an organic pattern to juxtapose against the stripes. These plates looked striking framed by the black fluted charges. Don’t you agree?

The sculptural shape of the white Wedgewood vase and the raised relief scenes on the smaller black Jasperware vases give a nod to all the sculptures and architectural elements that you find in the city of Paris.

A vintage black bowl with a bird on each side was filled with fruit was definitely an accessory that I used as a conversation starter.

Pro Hosting Tip: Always think of ways you can use your collections on your table to show your personality and interest and become conversation starters.

The introduction of pink added softness to the table, but the items used also added a delicate sophistication to the tablescape. This was done by using glass candlesticks, amber and rose-colored goblets, and a beautiful bouquet of garden roses.

The Embroidered napkin added a personal touch and and the flower pattern imitated the flowers seen on the plate.

Tips for Setting a Black and White Garden Party Tablescape:

1. Start with your Setting

By setting, I mean where your table is going to be placed. The best garden party tables are set outside. I suggest a great way to be surrounded by some greens! I decided to place my table on my patio for ease. If you have space in your garden, that would be the perfect place for your garden party outdoor table tablescape!

You can, however, host your table indoors. An outdoor space is not required for a garden tablescape. What makes the garden table setting come to life, in my opinion, are the flowers. That brings me to tip #2 of my garden party ideas for tables!

2. Choose Your Florals

I think florals are the center of your garden party tablescape as they should be the garden party centerpiece and they are one of my favorite things when it comes to setting a special occasion tablescape.

In fact, I built this entire table around the beautiful garden roses I was gifted from Grace Rose Farm! They are definitely my favorite part of this garden table.

I am a huge fan of garden roses for garden party tablescapes. I think they are the ideal flower for this type of table. I have put together a garden party table, however, with tulips as part of the floral arrangements and they looked beautiful as well!

I would say it comes back to the type of garden tablescape you want to create. With the other table I put together, I envisioned more of a spring garden party table setting and that is where the design went.

Then with this black and white garden party table, I wanted to create an elegant tablescape, which is why I believe the garden roses were perfect. Check your local flower market. They might surprise you with some stunning in-season flowers that will be the perfect compliment to your tablescape!

The florals should be the focal point of the garden table, so go big! The table centerpieces with fresh flowers will elevate the look of your table and make for a truly perfect table. The best part about choosing flowers for your table is that they alone can change the entire vibe of the tablescape. Have fun with it!

3. Keep Your Linens Light

My next piece of advice for setting a beautiful garden party table setting is to keep the linens light on the dining table. You’ll see in the images shared in this post that I went with a fresh black and white striped tablecloth. It wasn’t too heavy and kept the table light. Do the same thing with the napkins. Keep them light.

Another great addition could be a light table runner, possibly a solid-colored neutral to add to the backdrop of the garden party theme making for a beautiful tablescape.

4. Put Together a Simple Place Setting

Then comes the place setting. For a black and white garden party tablescape, I suggest keeping things simple. It is the perfect time for the basics. I went with a charger plate, dinner plate, and then flatware to keep things simple. To add even more simplicity, utilize white dishes inside of your color scheme.

If you are serving a multi-course meal and need more plates, consider serving the plates as needed to keep them off of the table all at once.

I would say, however, that you should also keep in mind the small details of the table. Keep the place setting simple, but build on the table with table decorations such as salt and pepper shakers, vases, or even fun decor pieces.

5. Add a Pop of Light Color

Finally, you need some color when it comes to a garden table. I loved the fresh pop of light pink to the color palette that I decided to feature on this black and white garden party tablescape. It paired beautifully with the elegant black and white theme and was the perfect addition to the garden dining party table.

However, there are many ways to tie in some color with your garden party table setting! I am a huge fan of blue and white tablescapes (see my favorites here). A blue and white garden party table would be a wonderful way to tie in color to the tablescape! See how I did that in this garden party post I wrote a few years ago.

I hope those five tips for setting a garden party tablescape help you put together the garden party table of your dreams!
