Setting Up Your Christmas Tablescape
When deciding on how to set up your red and gold Christmas tablescape, I suggest first deciding which of the colors you would like to stand out the most. Would you rather have bold reds accented with touches of gold or stunning golds with red accents?
For my red and gold Christmas table, I decided to go with mostly red with accents of gold and I think it made for a stunning Christmas tablescape.
A simple color scheme is the easiest way to create a cohesive and elegant table. Use shades of one color with an addition of a metallic. I chose different tones of red from the Burnt orange/ tomato tone of the dinner plates, the Xmas red of the tablecloth, to the deep brownish-red of the Leaping Reindeer salad plate. The gold was the perfect metallic to add the festive touch.

I love the yin and yang of mixing traditional with modern and I wanted that to come through with this table design. The key to this gorgeous Christmas table setting is just that! The mix of traditional and modern pieces. This gold and white dotted plate has a modern feel paired with the traditional look of these gold-rimmed glasses, plus the texture of these gold placemats creates an elegant transitional look.
The addition of this embroidered napkin tied with a velvet ribbon and you got a beautiful holiday look!
Red and Gold Themed Christmas Tableware
As a designer, one of the things that I love is learning the history behind a beautiful piece of furniture or vintage tableware. That history adds so much character to any design. Creating this table with the help of products from the Williamsburg Brand produced by Mottahedeh China helped to bring history to this table.

Christmas Plates with History
If you have been following me for a while, you know I love history and specifically when it is related to decor and architecture. I chose the “Leaping Reindeer” plate to be the focal point of each place setting. Knowing its pattern was inspired by a collection of Folk art owned by one of the Rockerfellers, made using these Mottahedeh plates extra special.
The Gabriel plate and the Reindeer salad plate would make great gifts, also.
I’m going to use mine on my dessert table this year but in the future, I can see these plates on a stand or hung on a wall, used as Christmas décor. Now you see what a hard choice I had on what to pick for my Christmas table!

Note that in this placesetting below, I used a charger plate/service plate, a dinner plate, and the salad reindeer plate. Most of the pictures on this blog have a dinner plate and the reindeer salad plate since that’s the way I typically set my table. I wanted to make sure you were aware of the difference in the size of the plate I was using in case you wanted to order them.
Red and Gold Themed Christmas Table Must-Haves
I have to say, one of my favorite holiday-themed pieces on the table (aside from the plates) are the leaping reindeer mugs. Who doesn’t love some hot chocolate or other warm beverages around the holiday season, and drinking it from this beautiful mug makes it even more special?
Next would have to be the Vetro Gold Wine Glasses. I adore the gold accents on these. Definite must-haves if you’re looking to upgrade your holiday dinner collection! Here’s a bit of trivia for those of you that are Downton Abbey fans, these goblets were used in one of the dinner scenes in their new movie “Downton Abbey: A New Era”.
The Christmas tree salt and pepper add a bit of whimsy to this fancy table and the Xmas boxes are a great way to bring a personal touch and an opportunity for your guests to leave with the token of the night’s festivities. The placecards, written in beautiful calligraphy were from the talented J Noel. Aren’t they gorgeous? I love the way she tore the edges of the cards to add a bit of casual elegance. These sparkling napkin rings then bring stars into the mix. Aren’t stars always part of this festive season?
If you’ve followed me for a while you know my love of monogram napkins, and this table is no exception. I had to have one to add another personal touch. Adding a bit of modernity to this traditional table are the simple gold candle sticks, the clean lines of the flatware, and the texture of the gold placemats.

About the Red and Gold Christmas Floral Centerpiece
One of the things I love to do to get a sophisticated and visually interesting floral centerpiece is to use different flowers in one color that have a slight variation in hue. If you look at this arrangement the colors range from the pinkish-red of the tulips to the maroon almost black-red of the scabiosas.
I went ahead and kept on with my idea of using a variety of reds in the flowers I used for this centerpiece. Again this is an easy way to create a beautiful arrangement. I combined roses, tulips, ranunculus, berries, and purplish red scabiosas with a bit of Christmas greens. The variety of flowers created interest and added texture.
