Blue and White Garden Themed Party| Soiree

This Mother’s Day table was inspired by two things, my love for blue and white and my obsession with the popular botanical trend. The trend around a garden-themed party, English gardens, and teatime has been popular and it has been seen everywhere from the fashion runaway to tableware this Spring.

This table was compiled with a combination of vintage and modern pieces to create a collected timeless look. All of the plates except for one were bought from Replacements, Ltd. They are the go-to place when I’m looking for that missing piece of vintage or modern tableware. I also love the fact that you can sign up to be notified when a particular piece you are searching for is back in stock.

Even though I created this table for a Mother’s Day Soiree’ this table would be perfect for a bridal party, a wedding, or any garden themed celebration. The lovely floral centerpieces acted like jewelry complementing the already beautiful blue and white tableware.

Use Your Collections On Your Table

I’m a big believer in finding different uses for accessories or collection in your home. I’ve had a love for Asian ginger jars and have collected them by buying them at my interior design sources but a good number of these jars I picked up at Homegoods. The blue and white plates all from Spode, and I bought most of them over a period of two years from Replacement, LTD.  Even though each plate has a different design, they all have the same color hue. I was also lucky enough to even find a couple of these plates at a local Goodwill. Each plate created a unique and beautiful surprise for each guest.

Garden Themed Details

I envisioned the table to be a sea of blue and white highlighted with the beautiful lavenders and pinks of the flowers. The base of the table was a large print blue and white paisley print fabric.  I love buying fabric to use as tablecloths, I feel like the large choice of fabrics at a fabric store increases my creative options. I use no-sew tape to take care of the edges. Since I was working with the blue and white pattern on the tablecloth and the on the plate and I needed a layer between them to make sure they were separated but appreciated. A dark brown woven charger added texture and depth of color to the table and allowed the different blue and white elements to stand on their own. This charger is one of those pieces that I always advise my clients to have in their collections. This was one of the first chargers in my collection and I’ve used them on my table with different plates in every season. Click here to find similar woven chargers.

I also loved using Pottery Barn’s Antique Silver Sentiment Flatware. It has an antique finish, every piece has a different pattern and the name of the utensil on each piece. This flatware adds a “that collected over time” look on the table. Since the table was already blooming with so much pattern, I used a light blue water glass and a clear fluted champagne coupe to coordinate with the table but overwhelm the table.

Floral Centerpieces

Last but not least, the flower centerpiece completed the table’s garden feel. The colors of the flowers were chosen to give the table a very feminine look, soft pinks, lilacs with touches of purple and blue. Tulips, hyacinths, lepto, roses, and were some of the flowers tucked into blue and white ginger jars of various sizes that were lined up in the middle of the table as a centerpiece.

Garden Cocktails

Botanical cocktails go hand in hand with a garden theme party and here are three of my favorite ones. The Lavender French 75 is a celebratory drink just by the fact it has sparkling wine and a mixture of gin, lemon juice, and hints of lavender. It makes a sophisticated but refreshing cocktail. Click here to get the recipe. For another festive cocktail made with prosecco, rum and berries click the Very Berry Cocktail.  The Windsor Garden is spring in a glass, it is also refreshing as you enjoy gin, lemon uses a blend of herbs such as basil, thyme, rosemary, and mint.
